View Full Version : Looking for advice on find and replace script to run on server.
It seems like monthly we are having to change out sponsor codes and it is going to get a lot worse. I know on my domains I've got tons of pages that need link codes changed for one reason or another. My domains are gigs in sizes so downloading and doing search and replace isn't a very good option.
The only server side find and replace script that I know of is this one.

Seems good and it's cheap too.
Anyone know any about the above one or any others?

Cleo,
Only person I trust to do server side thingys.. is Ray from http://www.webmastersguide.com/
Contact info is on the site.
I think he has a script.. or can write you one... very reasonable:)

I saw a free script like that on download.com a week or so ago. I always limit my searches to free so there may be others~~ |rasta|
They have a free version and I downloaded it and tried it out, does what it says.
The free version does not do sub-directories, but at $20 dollars it is a not really something that I have to give much thought to, lol.
The one that caveat that I wasn't too thrilled about is needing to chmod my files to 666, but that makes sense since unless the script was running as superuser how would it be able to change files.

Cleo, PHP Labs has "Replacer" as a freebie when you join up (comes with four or five dozen other very handy webmaster scripts). Oh and I DO use this myself for swapping out sponsor codes (when I'm not using my banner rotator script, that is) and it works great across all domains and dirs and subdirs one one server (and no chmods required)

Update :)
I went ahead and bought this one
http://www.cgi.veinotte.com/web_file_editor.htm
They lost my order, but did finally send me my script.
Does what it says and is really fast.
Below is what the output looks like on a sponsor code changeout,
Veinotte's Web File Editor Version 1.25
Successful editing.
http://atm.powersuitheaven.com/atm/?10465
was replaced with
http://c.fsx.com/c?z=362,67700,1,sb_ppj,http://www2.secretarybabes.com/
a total of 23 times.
I searched in 3043 files in 1332 Directories
Starting at /home/cleo/web/porn/
Always back up your files before using this script.

I have a whole bunch more to do on a few of my domains with a few different sponsor codes from a few different places. I know what I'll be doing this evening. ;)
Hopefully I'm not going to get banned anyplace for changing a page, but fuck if I'm going to leave up codes that lead to a sponsor that is no longer paying me or is out of business or has had to change their link codes or whatever. With all the crap happening this year this script will really come in handy. Just to be on the safe side I'm replacing codes with no console tours in the same niche as the original code was.
Right now I'm backing up my laptop since UPS just dropped off my replacement FireWire drive that I use for backing up after it took a dump last month. ACOMData took forever to replace it, but they did give me a new one for free. I will sleep much better knowing that my computer has been back-upped.

Ah, Veinotte. That's Barry. We've used his Ad Eagle banner rotator script on AOE for 3.5 years now. Good guy, some nice stuff there.
