View Full Version : First pics from Titan due soon today,

The probe lasted longer then expected and they are saying that it was a success. At least one of the transmitters did work and its data is now safe on earth.

YEAH!
I'm on vacation right now, but...
GO HUYGENS!
I can see what look like rivers in the first pic they've released.
Black rivers of -280 degree methane and organics. Holy shit.

I was *really* hoping that the first pic would show two curious eyeballs peeking at the damn probe.. or holding up a sign "Send more porn" or something extra special..
Still, extremely cool stuff!

They are finally starting to post some pics.

It looks so much like earth, but then so does much of Mars.
I like the serene vistas with the lack of irritating people on Titan.
It is so much NOT like Earth! haha

How much did this cost us?
A whole lot less then a few days of our war mongering.

Total Mission cost, $3.3 billion
Brits/ESA put up about $1.5 billion of that total mission cost.
I believe Italy kicked in another $.8 billion.

damn good work. we should stop wasting money on mars probes and send more to the moons of saturn/jupiter

We do have a good Mars mission for 2008 when they hope to sample some of the ice at one of the poles. Hopefully this time they will get the math right and not add another junk pile to the planet.
I agree that we need to spend more visiting the moons of the gas giants. It is looking more and more like they are where some form of life could exist.
More money for science and education and less on war.

I think GWB should go on a fact finding mission.. maybe he'd find his "Shock and Awe" ...

That is just tragic.:(
Personally I think they should just stick a rocket up GB's ass and send him to the moon.
