View Full Version : Pope says Gay marriage is 'evil'
IMO the Pope and religion in general is evil.

When I see shit like this I like to remember the Pope (Pius IX or something) from about a thousand years ago who was beaten to death in the street by the enraged husband of a woman he was banging. Kinda sums up the hipocrisy of Catholicism all in one go.

Cleo, I'm curious. On several threads you have expressed a desire for the Pope's speedy demise. What makes you think that the next one will will be any different ?
I have absolutely no hope, or actually could care at all, that the next pope will be any less of a backwards superstitious leader of their religious cult.
I just hope the next one has better health so I don't have to constantly hear about when the pope's last poop was and what his emotional state was at the time of his poop or food intake was.
Basically I could care less if he lives or dies I'm just sick of hearing about it.

What amazes me is that the Pope says something AND the media reports. Here in Toronto Christians are a minority, let alone Catholics. I don't hear the hear of the Greek Orthodoxs or some Muslim group on the news at the top of the hour. Guess JP2 has a good press agent!! LOL

Over the millennia (big word huh) untold thousands, if not millions have been slaughtered in the name of god, which curiously never comes directly from his mouth, but from the mouth of just another mortal.
Let's get back to basics and start worshiping trees, nature, the sky, the sun and such. Truely, if there is/was a god, then these are the tings we should hold dear to us, not child-molesting wankers who have made a career decision to be a 'holy man' (or woman or whatever)
It's no wonder he makes such stupid statements though, me must realise that he, and those that will surely follow him has increasingly little relevance to us.
I say let him show his worth and value. Let the Pope start healing the planet, cleansing the toxic pollutants in our seas reivers and oceans, sort out the ozone problem and our reliance on fossil fuels. Then he can move onto 3rd world debt, disease, famine and so on.
Once he's done that he will have earned the right to share his opinion and have it listened to, until then, while he continues to live in a Palace in his own little tax-free kingdom being carried around by shirt-lifting monkeys in a f****g chair, he should shut the f*** up and mind his own damned business.
(phew, it's good to have a rant once in a while!)

RE- "Let's get back to basics and start worshiping trees, nature, the sky, the sun and such" It is religion that causes the killing etc, not who you worship. If we worshipped nature the "tree worshippers" would start to kill the "sky worshippers" and the "sun worshippers" would split into two groups with slightly different views on how to worship the sun, and start fighting each other.

I'm afraid I have to disagree, ecchi... and being a pagan myself, I believe I have informed grounds on which to do so. The nice thing about being a pagan is that we only have one hard and fast rule pertaining to not doing harm to others. Beyond that, we are free to choose what/whom, when, where, and how we practice, down to writing our own customized grimoires (personal "bibles").
But the best part about practicing the Craft is tolerance... you'll never hear a true witch running down another person's religious preferences. Unlike other "religions" that don't follow the same tolerance guidelines, I just don't see wars cropping up between nature worshipping factions.
Of course that's just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary |peace|

Wenchy, just having a rule ("The nice thing about being a pagan is that we only have one hard and fast rule pertaining to not doing harm to others") does not mean people will live by it. The Christians have a "Thou shall not kill" rule, it did not stop the crusades, and the Muslim religion has a similar rule which did not stop 9/11. The only way you can claim that your followers do no harm is if you have a policy of brainwashing your followers. And even then it won't stop the violence. Because even if your religion were to brainwash it's followers, that does not stop followers of a different religion from beating the shit out of your followers for worshipping trees in "the wrong way", it just makes your followers easier to kill.

Wenchy, just a query about Paganism. Many years back, out of interest only, I read a lot about witchcraft. In that "religion" the term "grimoires" refers to the stronger, most black spellbooks, the ones most witches won't even read, let alone use. Does the fact that Pagans use these as their "personal bibles" mean you go in for the darker stuff or have you just corrupted the use of the word grimoir ?

Theproofhouse - I agree, but there is a difference between believing in "not insulting a faith" and stifling criticism of a faith. For example I am a Christian, I have spent a lot of time at church, I even used to belong to a group who went around performing religious plays to anyone who we could convince to watch them in the hopes of helping "people see the light". However I do not have a problem with any of the posts on this, or similar threads. In fact if the moderators started editing any of these posts, then I would object, even the posts they edited were posts that are very contrary to my views.
To insult someone's faith is wrong, but to stop someone expressing an opinion against another faith worse, it is fascism.

Never read so much crap posts on a board in all of my internet life.
It does seem that there is a lot of hostility here. I've always thought that religion is a way to control the population just like politics. While it's all about power and money, many people need the service in order to make sense of their own lives, get some direction and to not become a complete danger to society. I know a lot of very religious people that without the fear of going to hell would not hesitate to rape, steal or kill.
Is The Pope doing anything different then a typical US politician? Isn't he just trying to keep his folks in power? At least he's not killing anyone at the moment.
Hostility at this level always makes me nervous and it doesn't matter if it's the religious folks feeling towards us or our feelings towards them.
And NO, I don't believe in most of what the church states but I think if they didn't fill people with fear and a little hate then those people would destroy the world very quickly so it's needed.

A grimoire is simply a "witch's bible". I get the impression from non-pagans that it has been primarily connected with the black arts, but modern witchcraft simply views it as a book in which a practitioner keeps their spells (and not all spells are evil or designed to do harm, BTW), notes, rituals, private thoughts, etc.
Personally I haven't corrupted jack, but that's just me. |cool|
Incidentally, the "grande grimoire" I'm sure many have heard about is nothing more than a grimoire held by the head of a coven. In the old days, these books were guarded with one's life and well hidden to avoid discovery by those who labeled witchcraft "heresy" and would have killed to make it go away.

I have no interest or clue about who this pope dude is, but one thing I like about a rumor about him is when some guy put a bullet in him, the pope lay in the hospital for 3 months and then when he got better, he went to the prison where the assasin was held and sat with him and talked with him like the guy was his brother.
I may disagree about whatever the guy believes and says but that doesn't make me dislike the guy.
The old man is still breathing, so is a few million other people :)
I've been shoot and almost died so I know a little about this. Talking to the person that shoots you and forgiving them lets you put closer to it and move forward in life.
I'm not saying that he is a bad person, just a misguided one. The problem is the teachings of hate that he stands for that I have a problem with. Like I said, I feel sorry for him. I also feel sorry for the person that shot me as they are rotting in a jail cell. The pope is in the cell of his faith.

(Breaking my own rule about not discussing religion on forums).
Tolerance is important to me...all people need to learn tolerance...whether they're a catholic, pagan, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, atheist, or agnostic, etc. When one group of people is intolerant how do you respond? You respond with intolerance you not only feed into hate but you become a hypocrite of your own beliefs.
A few times Jesus has been mentioned in threads here and elsewhere. Let’s not get into the debate on whether he was a savior, supernatural, or the embodiment of god. Let’s actually look at his teachings and what he stood for…Tolerance of everyone…the man could be tolerant of prostitutes, sinners, and holy men. Jesus wanted a distribution of money…he didn’t want super wealthy people…he wanted people to help people and have a distribution of wealth. He was non-violent, he wouldn’t want war, and he told people to turn the other cheek.
Jesus if he were alive today wouldn’t support the catholic church, wouldn’t support the way most governments were run, he would probably be some poor philosopher as he was back in the day, preaching his message of love, tolerance, non-violence, and helping your fellow man.
Self-Education is a wonderful thing, you see things for what they are and not what someone spoon feeds you. People can go off on Jesus all they want, but they do it based on what his followers did to pervert his message, not what the man himself wanted or preached.
Jesus was the original radical and he makes most liberals today look conservative. I’m not a religious person...in fact not sure what I believe in. I don’t follow any religion but I do like his philosophical outlook…so I try to be tolerant of all people, even when they’re not tolerant of me or my beliefs.
Funny, I’m starting to sound like a hippie more and more each year, so peace, love, and tolerance…the world is a better place when you try to tolerate your fellow man even if you disagree with them.
The Pope is an old man about to die…I respect him even if I don’t agree with everything he’s done or said. A friend of mine is dying of aids…unprotected sex with multiple partners…I don’t agree with everything he did in his life, but I respect him and help him.
Respect is a two way street…don’t expect respect if you can’t give it…don’t expect tolerance if you can’t be tolerant.
Peace |peace|

RE "tolerance.....is a two way street" Yes, but too many people say this, believe it, and think they live it, but don't. For example, if you are tolerant to my view that God created the world etc. you also have to be tolerant to Cleo's view that God does not exist, and that all religion is inherently evil. Basically, although you can disagree with some of the posts on this thread (and the views are so diverse, I guess it is impossible to not disagree with some), you may even be personally offended by some, but you have to accept them as other people's views. If you feel that any one of these posts should not have been made, then you are NOT being tolerant.
Mr. Blue
02-27-2005, 03:32 AM
I didn't criticize anyone's posts. I didn't criticize Cleo...I didn't criticize the people that got offended. I honestly believe people should be tolerant and I try to be tolerant to all views.
You're right no one is 100% tolerant...but it isn't such a bad ideal to strive for it. The world would be a better place if people tried to tolerate more.
As I said, I'm not religious. I don't follow any religion...I'm perfectly comfortable with letting you ecchi believe that god created everything and I'm also perfectly comfortable with letting Cleo believe there is no god. I have no hangups either way as I know you both have good reasons to believe what you believe in.
Tolerance is a two way street...People of differing views should be able to set it aside and if they can't love each other at least they can tolerate each other, not try to cause harm to the other, and maybe even try to respect each other. That was my point.
