Hi Bloggers!

I'm making an effort to ease myself into the blogging world. This section of gg&j has given me some terrific ideas, as well as the impetus to get off my bum and join the blogging ranks.

Just a few questions about domain names.

Do you recommend the use of terms such as blog, blogger, bloggers, blogging in domain names (in anticipation of their spread in usage, like thumbs and tgp)?

I notice a few domains using a hyphen. Is the hyphen more preferable to grouping words together? A search engine thing?

In terms of recognition - and possibly intrinsic value - are certain blog terms more valuable than others? For instance, would it be better to have blog than blogger?

One reason I ask these questions is because I see a spread in the use of blogging terms. Hell, even my own mother knows about blogs. I'm assuming - rightly or wrongly - that having blogging terms in a domain name will aid brand recognition and intrinsic value.

I don't know if you want to use Blogger in a domain name...it's copyrighted but using blog in the domain name I'm sure would be good.

I've read that SE's like hyphens.

Good stuff George. I think with blogger being a collective term, it might me permissable, but I will keep it in mind.

What do you guys n girls think about Diary...?

You are a girl right? I hope so, if you are then it would be nice to use "diary". Have to make it more of a personal blog though.

No, I'm a guy! No worries, happens all the time. I blame my parents for cursing me with the Swedish K as opposed Ch. he he

Writing as a girl is no problem though. It's what I have in mind actually.

Thanks for your input -- heh and making me feel like a tranny! |headbang|

grouping words rather than hyphens can be easier to remember. I have a hyphen cause someone had boogieblog.com (so lame)

but using the word blog is good, if thats the audience you're targeting, ie blog readers and searchers

I can only see only continued growth for the adult blog market. Getting the right domain has proven to be a little more tricky than usual, since it needs to be descriptive, memorable AND hopefully contain blog. I wish I'd snapped up some winners a few years ago! Thanks for the advice. |thumb

I was experimenting with domain names a few nights ago for some blog sites I want to create, there are a lot of unused domain names relating to blogs. I'm not telling what though.
