View Full Version : Registration Was Fun

Linkster called me at 9 to ask if we wanted to go get our badges with him & Ramster. So we get down there at 10 or so & find Hall G & go up to the pre-registration booth, which has a nice Hot Movies logo as the sponsor. Well, these aren't for us :(
If you're going to get your badge, go right when you get into Hall G into the area between the curtains that has no signs & looks like it's a "behind the scenes" area. To your left near the end you'll see the Internext Registration booths (and oddly enough, the seminars are being held next to there, but that's a story for tomorrow once I get inside & confirm what I think I saw as far as the set up)
So I go up & give them our info & driver's licenses. The lady has no idea where we are in the system. She asks another lady & she looks on a list & we're no there either. So the 1st lady pokes around a bit more & fins us, but we're told we haven't filled out all the info for the badges nor have we paid. Seeing as these are free badges with the seminar, I tell them again that AVN registered us. We then talk to a 3rd lady who has our info & was very helpful.
Not a horrendous experience, but talking to 3 people (4 if you count the AEE guy) was not giving me a bright outlook :D
Off to gamble for a bit & find some of today's arrivals |thumb

That sounds much better than last January. What a cluster fuck that was |banghead|

I am always amazed just how totally clueless local staff can be, and how little actual supervision seems to be put in place for these people.
Registration has never been AVN's strongest area (if they have one)

I don't blame the staff so much because most are temp labor, but it does reflect poorly on AVN when they can't train them properly. I realize nothing is ever going to go 100% right and there will always be someone who has problems, but the staff should be trained how to properly deal with issues when they do come up.
Last year was enough to make me really question even going this year (which I'm not). I actually did better networking in the little lobby area there outside of the registration area then on the show floor (once I got there). To me, it's just not worth the $$$ or the time it takes. I know I'll do more business at the private dinners/gatherings I have setup this weekend than if I did 3 days on the show floor.

I'm gonna take back all of the above - we went down with DrB around 12 or so & it was quite easy to find once they had everything set up (I guess we were just there too early)

The average wait last year to register was 3 hours. If I didn't want to take Nataliya to a Vegas show that probably would have been my last one.

There were very few people there both times I went down, but then again, most people are getting in today.
Oddly enough, getting my badge from CES was a breeze & they didn't even ask me to prove I was in the electronics field |thumb

Sykk, I am sitting this one out as well. For the type of stuff I work on, I couldn't justify almost 4k to spend a week and have fun, only to be in vegas at the time when the clubs, restaurants, casinos, and strip clubs are all packed to the rafters. It just isn't as much fun as it could be one week later.
It seems to me that many people have made the same choice this year.

After GreenGuy pointed to all the signs that said "Registration this way", Ramster lead us all the way up to the booth and we had no one in front of us. |thumb
Took all of 3-5 minutes.

I don't think I'll ever need to go to a show. I get enough giggles from hearing everyone's complaints. :D Plus, I'm such an introverted wallflower, I wouldn't be able to network unless people approached me first.
I never would have gotten in if that was me, Greenie. I would have been dragged out for asking them "exactly how fucking stupid can you possibly be?". I don't react well to aggravation of that sort. ;)

Damnit, the year I decide to pass on the show, registration goes smoothely ;-)
Alex, yeah, I have quite a few people I'm meeting with a couple days after the show. It should be much more settled down and relaxed.
