Morning peoples :)
My day started off with my step-daughter not realizing there is a time difference & calling us at 6:30 Vegas time |banghead|
We're off to CES today so that I can get a glimpse of my hero's Opie & Anthony (http://www.opieandanthony.com/) & check out some of the new gadgets that I'm sure I'll need to have as soon as I see them.
Gonna try to get back over for the PM seminars & then hopefully hook up with Far-L & the Home Grown Crew to discuss some business & free sites & whatnot |thumb

From what I gather, AVN has figured out that the online porn people won't turn out in acceptable numbers when hotels are over priced and there is too much stuff going on in town, so next year's show is in March, at the Mandalay Bay.
It is going to be a HUGE gap from August 2006 to March 2007. I trust the August show will also get slipped into later 2007 as well.
Good news... almost like AVN actually might be (shock) listening.
Nahhh.. |badidea|

WOW that will be great internext in March here. I was one that waited to long to book and forget about it, the rooms were way to high. Wonder of CES will change their show dates too?

No, my bet is that AEE (the video show) will stay intact for the same time as CES, but they are moving the web IE show back to Mandalay at a time more condusive to enjoying Vegas. Weather goes from lo-mid 50's average to mid 60's which, while not swimming weather, will certainly make evening strolls a little more acceptable and make waiting for limos, taxis, and shuttles less oppressive.
Plus, while vegas is always "busy", that is a pretty dead time of the year overall, which means shorter lineups, more show tickets available, and taxis aplenty.
I actually weirdly look forward to it now.

You think they made this decision between when we had Farley on the Radio Show & now?
I think it likely that some of the major exhibitors and event sponsors also complained about the higher cost of rooms for all their staff.
I'm not familiar with the structure of the food chain at AVN, but the based on some of his comments I'm not so sure Farley has a great deal of input on such decisions.

|waves| from the CES press room. Interesting that they should finally decide to change it. I don't suppose it's the almost empty exhibit "room" (cuz it's not a "hall") and the 1/2 empty seminar basement that did it? maybe they figure if they have the AEE in Jan and then the webmasters in march they will be able to get double the $$ from those who normally work both.
Hopefully they will revamp the seminar program as well.

I currently have a wait and see attitude about these changes to the show dates...

Well, even AVN is admitting the current show is smaller... I am starting to think the change of dates is an attempt to get crossover companies to exhibit twice - January at the AEE show, and then come back to exhibit to the net people in March:

<< “It will be the adult Internet’s own space. They won’t have to share it with AEE or CES or anyone else,” which not only will reduce the confusion and crowding, but also some of the incumbent expense. “In addition, we’re pulling it away from the holidays, which industry members have requested.” >>
Basically, it sounds like a shift to the Miami mentality of smaller exhibits and more parties, social, and interactivity. It also sounds like they are going to take over an area on a single floor of the exhibit halls for the entire show, likely so they can control the moochers. If nothing else is on the schedule for Mandalay that week, I wouldn't be surprised to see that whole area get roped off and the same sort of Miami lockout in the cards.
Interesting indeed.
This also makes the Miami show a more "need to go" event, because it will be almost 7 months until the next show after that.

Well, I think that moving it to March will be great. It lets us be there with just ourselves (The Venetian is a fucking madhouse with all the "content" & slack jawed geeks) plus it spreads things out very nicely - 1 shows every 6 months.
Miami is already booked for 2006, but we can still bug them about moving it to a better climate in 2007 :)

My Friday activities are not even AVN related. CES is fucking MASSIVE & I did get to cream my pants watching Opie & Anthony broadcast live from the XM Booth (and I met their producer Steve for the 1st time after chatting on the phone & via email)
Then we went downtown for dinner with The Bitch's cousin, the Lou's, docholly & her slave Tart, so it was a nice evening :)
Back to the AVN thing tomorrow, as I have yet to see the floor (which I'm told looks a lot like the Montreal show Jim & I went to a couple years back)
jaYMan is taking us the the AVN Awards as well, so that should be interesting |thumb

4:44am post? Damn dude, I thought I was up early.
Or did you post that before bed?
If so, it don't sound like you're going to be coming to breakfast this morning, before the PornPokerTour starts....

i have the pics from the Fremont street trek. We had a great time. I forgot how impressive that huge canopy really is if you are into schlock. For some reason Lips up close and personal don't really turn me on.
I'll post up the pics as soon as my eyes stay open for more than 10 minutes.

While I'm thrilled with the move, I think that it might be too late. By moving it to March, some people will be forced to choose between Vegas & Phoenix. I'm not sure that AVN is any longer in a position to make people choose in their favour. I know that 2 cross-continent trips so close together is more than I can handle.
